Canyon Ridge garage doors

Faux-wood composite cladding over an insulated steel core, so the look of stained wood comes without the upkeep.

Real wood doors look the part, then ask for it back in sanding and refinishing. Canyon Ridge is Clopay's answer to that: an insulated steel door clad in composite made to look like wood, grain included. Clopay presents it as a low-maintenance alternative to real wood. From the driveway it reads as stained wood, and it stays that way without the maintenance cycle that wood demands in a humid climate. It is the collection to look at when you like wood but do not want to refinish it.

The collection is broader than its carriage house origins. Clopay lists the Carriage House 4-layer and 5-layer designs, which carry the traditional swing-out look with overlays and hardware. It also lists Elements, Louver, Chevron and Modern designs, which run from slatted and angled-plank faces to clean contemporary lines. That spread is why it appears under both the carriage house and modern and glass styles on this site. A craftsman or farmhouse can take a carriage design. A contemporary house can take Chevron or Modern, where the angled planks do the work that glass does on a lighter door.

Every door in the line is insulated steel behind the composite, which suits an attached garage in a hot, humid place and any garage with a room above it. Ask about it if the garage doubles as a workshop or gym, and note that the R-value depends on the construction. We give you the figure for the door you choose in the quote, not a general number for the collection. The steel core also means the door keeps its shape better than the real wood it imitates, which is part of the appeal.

Windows are available on the designs that take them, in layouts that depend on the design. Colors are wood-look finishes from Clopay's sample range, and these matter more here than on a plain steel door, because the finish is the whole point. We bring the samples to the consultation so you can judge them in daylight against your brick, siding and roof, not under showroom lighting. A warm stain beside red brick reads very differently from the same stain beside gray siding. If the door faces a long driveway, you will see it from a distance, and the larger features, such as the plank direction or the layer pattern, matter more than fine detail. Standing back from a sample is the quickest way to judge that.

Canyon Ridge sits at the top of the Clopay range on cost, in the same group as the glass and real wood collections. Expect the price to move with the design, the number of layers, the windows and the width of the opening.
